Welcome to the Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School!

Recently, as a result of several years of studies and restructuring efforts, our program received a special national commendation as a United Synagogue "Framework For Excellence" Model 1 Religious School - only the second in Florida and the 23rd in the entire country!   We integrate formal and informal educational programming and meet rigorous standards in all academic areas that include professional development, curriculum development, and family education. Our curriculum has been structured to ensure that all students, regardless of background or style of learning, will progress at any level of Hebrew in the Religious School, while still enjoying the company of their age-group in a fun and stimulating Judaica program.  Our goal is to instill a love of our rich heritage in a safe and positive family-syle atmosphere.

Kindergarten, first and second graders meet on Sundays only for 2 hours, where they are introduced to Hebrew letters and vocabulary, learn all about Jewish holidays, and get to know about heroes and mitzvot in the Torah.  Grades 3-7 meet three days per week (Sunday, Monday and Wednesday), concentrating on Hebrew fluency (prayer as well as conversational), history, customs and rituals.  The 7th grade "Etgar" class enjoys a mitzvah-based program, pulling together all of this knowledge and learning how to put it to practical use both personally and in the community as young, Jewish adults.

Our dedicated teachers are active members of our synagogue, providing outstanding role models for our children.  Rabbi Lubliner, Rabbi Weiner and Cantor Ben-Moshe are involved on a regular basis in our classrooms and in holiday assemblies.

Music, art projects, dramatics, and use of the library and computer lab allow each student to flourish in an exciting, kid-friendly atmosphere.  A special-needs professional and individual tutors are available for children who need a bit of extra help during school hours with their Hebrew and Judaic studies.

The Bernard & Alice Selevan Religious School also provides students with a connection to their synagogue: a familiarity with the building as well as a sense of community as they see their classroom friends and teachers at services and other functions.  Parents also find this a great opportunity to get to know other families.  You will have every opportunity to become as involved as you wish in our many family programs, our active PTA, or even as a volunteer in our office or classroom!

For more information, please do not hesitate to call us at 268-4200, ext. 145 or 146.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
