The purpose of the Youth Programs of the JJC is to be the informal phase of our total educational package. The programming is designed to offer our children the chance to promote self-identity within an ever-changing world and to express oneself in a fun atmosphere. Our synagogue youth activities offer a unique opportunity to stimulate educational, spiritual and social growth within a Jewish environment. CHALUTZIM (Grades 4 & 5) & KADIMA (Grades 6-8) The goal of Chalutzim and Kadima is to provide our youth with a firm base of knowledge and Jewish identification, a sense of pride in their heritage, and a commitment to Judaism. Our objectives are to help them recognize the importance of Shabbat and holiday observance and to develop an appreciation and willingness to work for the Synagogue. Our goal is to teach our children to support community and civic activities, to recognize the importance of Israel as a modem center for world Jewry and to develop a Jewish identity through music and dance. USY (Grades 9-12) Our Jewish teenagers will experience how Jewish living through study, action and fellowship leads the way to personal fulfillment and growth. Membership in USY will give our young people the security of belonging to a group, and through it identifying with their Synagogue, community, and the Jewish people. USY encourages programming relevant to the particular interests of our teens, to the personal commitments they want to make, to the values that they particularly cherish, and to the contemporary problems that arouse their attention. This year, we will have exciting religious, social, athletic, cultural and recreational activities for all three youth groups.I invite you and your friends to take advantage of all that we offer. I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and your advisors. Sincerely,
Gayle D. Bailys
